Moonwalk Team

Justin Valley, PhD

Co-Founder, COO

Prior to Co-founding Moonwalk Biosciences, Justin was the Vice President of Applications and Consumables at Berkeley Lights (now part of Bruker Corporation). Over the course of 8 years, Justin helped build much of the foundational technology that powers the Berkeley Lights Optofluidic system – the industry leading high throughput system for the study of complex, single cell, live biology – leading to an IPO in 2020. In this role, Justin oversaw all R&D associated with Berkeley Lights’ OptoSelect chips, reagents, consumables manufacturing, and workflows that run on the Berkeley Lights platform — including Ab Discovery, Cell Line Development, T cell Profiling, and Synthetic Biology. Prior to Berkeley Lights, Justin spent several years at Texas Instruments building advanced metrology and manufacturing techniques for novel MEMS devices.

Justin completed his PhD and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley where his thesis focused on the core technology that was eventually licensed to Berkeley Lights. Before that, Justin completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan where he worked on MEMS devices for cortical/cochlear recording and stimulation.
