UMass Chan Medical School
Silvia Corvera is the Endowed Chair in Diabetes Research and Professor in Molecular Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School. She received her M.D. and MSc in Molecular Biology from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. Dr. Corvera’s laboratory investigates the development and function of human adipose tissue depots, focusing on their metabolic roles during development, aging, and disease. The lab has pioneered unique approaches to produce multipotent mesenchymal progenitor cells from diverse human adipose depots at a scale sufficient to generate “human” adipose tissue in mice. This innovative system is leveraged to study multiple aspects of different human adipose tissue types in vivo. Additionally, the lab explores the genetic architecture of progenitor cells to uncover mechanisms that drive cells toward specific adipocyte subtypes.
